Self Care Saturday!
I’ve just returned from a rejuvenating trip to see a friend and her family in Dallas, Texas. Her family enveloped me like a warm blanket, the weather was divine, the tulips in bloom, and the BBQ was so tender I didn’t need teeth!
Virginia Satir, aka the Mother of Family Therapy, posited that there are 8 domains of self that need nurturance and care. She listed our “context” as an area of self-care and I’ve found that taking a trip is one loving way of attending to my environmental health needs. Look out for a useful worksheet I’ll be posting to help you identify areas of your life that might benefit from a little more loving attention.
In the meantime, treat yo’self today! Hint: seeing a counselor is another way to experience self-care. My endocrinologist calls visits with a therapist “spa-days for the soul!”
